On Thursday the 14th of February activists from around North East Victoria joined together to create an interesting and uplifting event at the Wangaratta Arts Centre in Support of an Australian Charter of Human Rights.

Over 300 participants, many travelling from surrounding areas, heard Lee Carnie, Gillian Triggs, Fr. Peter McLeod-Miller and Teela Reid speak about the importance of creating a Human Rights Charter for Australia.

There was great interest in the Amnesty information table, people lining up to sign petitions. 258 actions were collected in support of Amnesty’s My New Neighbour Campaign, and hundreds of dollars were raised to support the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.
