Kids Need Better Campaign Kit

Welcome to your Kids Need Better campaign toolkit — packed with resources to inspire your participation and action. We’re so excited for you to be part of our movement!

Ready to get started? Work your way down the list!

What’s inside this resource kit:

1. Add Your Voice

Sign our petition calling on Governments to:

  • Raise the minimum age a child can be imprisoned to at least 14 years old.
  • End abusive practices in youth detention.
  • Protect every child’s rights through enforceable national minimum standards.
  • Invest in community-led solutions that keep children safe and supported.

Every signature helps build the public pressure needed to create change. When thousands of us come together to demand better for children together, governments can’t ignore us.

For many people, signing a petition is the first step in becoming an activist. Every conversation you have and signature you collect helps grow our movement.

2. Share the Kids Need Better Petition

Help more people join the movement by spreading the word in your community.

Postering

Put up a Kids Need Better poster at your local cafe, gym, workplace, or community noticeboard (always ask for permission first).

Every poster helps bring Kids Need Better into public spaces. The more people who see this message, the bigger and louder our movement becomes.

See our postering guide for the DO’s and DON’T’s of postering; how and where to poster:

+ Help us keep track of where the posters are located by filling out this form.

Collect signatures in the real world:

Take a printed copy of the Kids Need Better petition to your local market or community event (with permission from the organisers) and invite people to add their name.

Every conversation helps more people understand why kids need better and every signature helps build support for change.

Email scanned petition to activism@amnesty.org.au OR post to Locked Bag 23, Broadway NSW 2007 Australia.

3. Write a Letter

Write a heartfelt and personalised letter to the Federal Attorney General using this guide, calling on them to end abusive practices in youth detention and create a system where every child is safe, supported and given equal opportunity to thrive.

Every letter helps build pressure for change and reminds governments they can’t ignore children’s rights.

4. Attend a Kids Need Better campaign event

Did you know that Amnesty Action Groups run events both online and right around the country? Click here to search for upcoming activist events to attend on the Amnesty website.

5. Join the Kids Need Better activist network

As our campaign grows, we’ll be looking for volunteers to help power the movement through actions like phone banking, peer to peer texting and community organising. If you’re ready to take the next step, we’d love to have you onboard!
