Amnesty International Australia has made a submission to Treasury regarding Australia’s 2025-26 budget priorities.
This submission has two focuses. The first is the protection of refugees and people seeking asylum, primarily through an increase in the Refugee and Humanitarian Program, and also through providing better and safer pathways and assistance to people fleeing international crises who are seeking protection in Australia.
The second is Indigenous justice and the over-imprisonment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly the overrepresentation of Indigenous children in the youth justice system.
Amnesty International Australia aims in this submission to draw the Government’s attention to issues which require serious consideration in planning Federal Budget expenditure.
