Our new report has found that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) committed crimes against humanity, war crimes and ethnic cleansing during and after the siege of El Fasher in Sudan’s North Darfur state.
Entire neighbourhoods have been destroyed, families are missing, and thousands remain trapped without food, water or medical care.
Since April 2023, reports estimate that over 100,000 people have been killed across Sudan and up to 14 million people displaced. Satellite imagery and on-the-ground evidence reveal communities wiped out, hospitals targeted, and mass graves uncovered.
The RSF’s crimes include murder, forcible transfer, imprisonment, torture, rape, sexual slavery, other forms of sexual violence, enslavement, extermination and persecution. They have deliberately attacked civilians, displacement camps, and hospitals – including the Saudi Maternity Hospital.
Despite this, the international response has fallen tragically short.
Right now, Australia has the power to use its voice and influence to help end the suffering.
We are calling on the Government to:
– Back an immediate ceasefire, the urgent establishment of an international protection force, and an increase in humanitarian funding to alleviate the suffering.
– Champion a strengthening and better enforcement of the existing UN arms embargo.
– Urgently review its defence exports to the UAE – the RSF’s main backer – to ensure that these exports are not involved in the Sudan conflict.
– Support accountability through the International Criminal Court (ICC) and credible evidence-collection efforts.
– Fast-track visas for Sudanese survivors and families.
– Impose targeted sanctions on individuals and companies enabling atrocities.
