Join your local rally to demand justice for Palestinians
Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s arrival in Australia is days away. Just yesterday, Chris Sidoti, former Australian Human Rights Commissioner and member of the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry into the Occupied Palestinian Territory demanded Herzog be arrested for inciting genocide.
Earlier this week, we asked our supporters to take action, and now, communities across the country are taking the next step.
This Monday, we’ll gather in cities and towns across Australia to rally for an end to genocide against Palestinians and demand justice and accountability. Are you with us?
Rallies are happening this Monday 9 February across the country, as part of a National Day of Action led by grassroots groups and community organisers.
When you register, you’ll be able to find your local rally, connect with other Amnesty activists, and access printable rally posters.
President Herzog has unleashed immense suffering on Palestinians in Gaza for over two years – brazenly and with total impunity.
With this visit by the head of a genocidal state just days away, we must demand our government act in line with its obligations under international law by holding perpetrators of grave human rights violations to account. Welcoming President Herzog as an official guest undermines Australia’s commitment to accountability and justice. We cannot remain silent.
Know your protest rights
State governments have introduced new laws that restrict protest rights and expand police powers in recent years. New laws in NSW remove protections normally given to protest participants from being charged with the offences of obstructing traffic and pedestrians or failing to comply with a direction.
You are not breaking the law by attending Monday’s protest in NSW, but if given a move on direction by a police officer, we recommend that you comply, to avoid being charged with obstruction or a similar offence.
Find more information on protesting in NSW at the moment here. We encourage you to follow the guidance of organisers, look after one another, and make informed choices about how you participate.
Your activism matters
Power prevails when we do nothing – that’s when we need to come together most.
Over the last two years, we’ve seen that sustained, visible pressure is what forced accountability. These rallies are about saying clearly: Australians reject genocide, oppose this visit and demand accountability under international and Australian law.
No one is above the law, and justice for Palestinians cannot wait.
Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 10 million people who take injustice personally. We are campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all – and we can only do it with your support.
