Mother Nature Cambodia (MNC) is a group of 5 activists that have a shared love of nature. They defend the environment from harmful actions by the government and companies.
“If we witness human rights violations and stay silent, it means we ourselves are silently committing violence,” Leanghy Yim (Member of MNC).
In 2020, three of the group were arrested for peacefully demonstrating against the infilling of a lake, and a year later more of the group were arrested while investigating the pollution of a river.
“The fear of arrest is not as great as the fear of losing our natural resources,” Ratha Thun (Member of MNC).
In 2024, the group was sentenced to between six and eight years in prison, just for protecting their environment.
