Amnesty International Australia calls on the Australian Government to exert pressure on the Israeli government to immediately end its renewed bombardment of the Gaza strip by putting ending all military and cooperation with Israel.
The Australian Government must support international investigations and accountability measures, including the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrants for Gallant and Netanyahu. It must pressure Israel to halt its indiscriminate bombing, restore the flow of humanitarian aid, guarantee unrestricted access to food and medicine, and rebuild Gaza’s decimated healthcare and sanitation infrastructure.
Furthermore, the Australian Government must recognise and condemn Israel’s genocide, apartheid system, which is a crime against humanity and its unlawful, brutal occupation of Occupied Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem —the root cause of this humanitarian crisis.
Amnesty International reiterates its demand for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the return of all hostages, an end to Israel’s flagrant and repeated violations of international law and for the end to Israel’s illegal occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Amnesty Australia also reiterates its call for complete transparency over Australia’s weapons, weapons parts and munitions exports to ensure that Australia is not breaching international law by supplying Israel with the means to perpetrate war crimes.
In the past 48 hours alone, Israeli forces have slaughtered over 414 Palestinians, including 174 children, and wounded more than 550 others. Many more remain trapped beneath the rubble, as the bombardment escalates on an unprecedented scale.
Amnesty International Australia is outraged and horrified by the resumption of Israel’s violent assault on Gaza. The ongoing blockage of humanitarian aid, the unlawful ban on UNRWA, and the tightening of the siege, involving blocking medicine, fuel, food, electricity and critical supplies, amount to nothing less than genocide and collective punishment. The targeted killings of civilians, humanitarians, medical workers and journalists constitute Israel’s continual violations of international human rights and humanitarian law. These atrocities cannot be ignored, and the world must immediately act.
Mohamed Duar, Amnesty International Australia’s Occupied Palestinian Territory Spokesperson, says:
“Over 400 Palestinians have been slaughtered as Israel resumes its mass killings in Gaza. The world cannot stand by and allow Israel to continue to inflict staggering levels of death and human suffering in Gaza. This genocide has subjected Palestinians to horror after horror, war crime after war crime, immediate action must be taken.

“As many observe Ramadan, Gaza has been completely cut off from humanitarian aid for 17 days. Israel’s siege has blocked all food, medicine, and critical supplies, and just days ago, it cut off electricity, shutting down the desalination plants that provide clean drinking water. Just as 1.8 million Palestinians began the impossible task of rebuilding their shattered lives, they are once again being subject to heavy airstrikes and bombardment.
“This is the largest assault since 19 January 2025, and now the genocide continues, unabated and unchallenged.
“Australia must uphold its obligation to prevent and punish genocide and ensure respect for international human rights and humanitarian law by demanding an immediate end to Israel’s attacks and to facilitate the unconditional and unhindered entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
“States must come together and demand an immediate, lasting ceasefire, an end to Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, and the dismantling of its apartheid system and unlawful occupation within the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
“We cannot wait any longer. For 76 years, Palestinians have fought for their fundamental human rights, dignity, and justice, yet with each passing day, the longer injustice continues with impunity. The time for action is now.”
Background
In January 2025, a ceasefire was forged and implemented, pausing the violence for two months. This fragile truce, which had temporarily halted Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, has now ended.
The ceasefire had laid out a path for a permanent resolution and led to the release of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian detainees unlawfully imprisoned by Israel.
Since October 7, 2023, over 60,000 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 17,000 children. More than 100,000 have been injured, while over 14,000 remain missing trapped beneath rubble or presumed dead.
In the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces have killed over 900 Palestinians, including at least 181 children, and injured more than 7,000 others.
In December 2024, Amnesty International released a comprehensive report confirming that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Amnesty continues to demand an immediate end to this genocide and calls for urgent international action to hold perpetrators accountable and deliver justice.
