Your petition has been handed to the Minister | Thank you for standing with people seeking safety

Thanks to you, people like Asif now have permanent protection

It’s because of the actions of more than 5,000 Amnesty supporters across the country, that we have just handed the petition calling on the Australian Government to end the cruel ‘Fast Track’ system to the Minister for Home Affairs in Canberra.

For over 12 years, a group of people seeking asylum have been stuck in Australia on temporary bridging visas – visas that must be renewed every 6 months, often without the right to work, access Medicare or reunite with their families. Their lives have been put on hold.

More than 7,500 of these people were failed by ‘Fast Track’, an unfair system designed to make it difficult to access protection and deter those seeking safety. The system was marked by excessive delays, with many waiting years for outcomes, and some still waiting to this day.

Thanks to the compassion, courage, and solidarity of our supporters, people like Asif now have permanent protection and a future in Australia. After years of uncertainty and fear, they can finally breathe and rebuild their lives, hold their loved ones close and know they are now safe.

Our journey isn’t over

Too many people from the Fast Track cohort are still waiting, living in limbo with no certainty for their future. The government must give them another chance because everyone deserves permanent protection, safety, and dignity.

Your support is a powerful reminder that when compassionate people come together, we can make extraordinary change.

Together, we’ll continue to fight for people just like Asif and build a future where every person affected by Fast Track can finally live in peace, reunite with their families, and call Australia home.
