Israel has been and is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

In a landmark 2024 report, Amnesty International’s research determined that Israel has committed and is continuing to commit genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip by treating them as subhuman.

This genocide has seen almost two million Palestinians endure relentless bombardment, and constant forced displacement and starvation as a weapon of war. More than 52,000 Palestinians, nearly a third of them children, have been killed since October 7, 2023. The healthcare system has entirely collapsed.

While we welcome recent steps taken by the re-elected Labor Government – like condemning Israeli leadership and calling for aid access – they are not enough. Israel continues to block humanitarian aid, and starvation is still being used as a weapon of war.

Australia’s continued support and assistance to Israel is shielding Israel from accountability or effective international scrutiny regarding its collective punishment of Palestinians. Diplomatic backing and impunity enable human rights abuses and war crimes, and further fuel the genocide in Gaza.

On 19 May, after months of public pressure, the Australian Government called for full aid access and condemned Israeli leadership. But statements are not enough. We need sustained humanitarian access, an end to the siege, and immediate restoration of Gaza’s infrastructure.

Australia must support the ICC arrest warrants for Israeli officials and use all available tools – diplomatic, legal, and economic – to stop the genocide. This includes pushing for compliance with International Court of Justice rulings and ending any actions that facilitate apartheid and occupation.

The Australian Government must act now.

Australian government has a legal and moral responsibility to prevent and punish genocide. By continuing arms transfers and military cooperation, and failing to hold Israel accountable, the Albanese Government risks being complicit in one of the gravest crimes under international law.

Email your MP now and demand urgent action.

Demand them to:

  • Oppose any attempts by Israel to establish a permanent military and Israeli civilian presence in Gaza, alter its borders and demographic make-up, or shrink its territory, including through any expanded buffer zones or the construction of permanent checkpoints
  • Publicly recognise Israel is committing the crime of genocide;
  • Use all available diplomatic, legal, and economic measures to stop the ongoing atrocities and to ensure the immediate, sustained, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
  • Play its role to ensure Israel is held accountable for any war crimes and crimes against humanity, including by calling on the UN Security Council to impose targeted sanctions against Israeli government officials responsible.
  • Ensure that Israel immediately complies with the measures ordered by the International Court of Justice, including; providing basic aid and humanitarian assistance, ending the unlawful occupation, and preventing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
  • Immediately halt the sale and transfer of arms, parts, and related assistance that may contribute to serious violations of international law.
  • Stop rendering aid to the occupation.

The re-elected Labor Government has taken some long-overdue steps, but in the face of genocide, statements are not enough. The Australian Government must do more to stand on the right side of history. Email your MP now and demand real action to stop the genocide and deliver justice for Palestinians.
