Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have the solutions to gender-based violence – but Australian governments haven’t listened to their solutions – they haven’t funded their solutions, and that means that communities continue to experience violence.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women – who also battle the ramifications of colonialism and racism – face disproportionate violence.
Previous action plans haven’t centred the voices of First nations women, and haven’t reduced violence for them. The government needs to commit to a plan that centres the voices and solutions of First Nations women.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have been clear. There needs to be a standalone National action plan for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children.
