Why be an activist?

It’s everyday people joining together and speaking with one voice that brings torturers to justice, changes oppressive laws and frees people imprisoned just for voicing their opinion.

Amnesty International is an independent, global movement that campaigns courageously for human rights for everyone. We’re ordinary people from all walks of life, standing together for justice, freedom, human dignity and equality.

As an activist, you’ll be joining other passionate people in your local community to organise events and activities that empower people to take action for what they care about. With your help, we can campaign for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all.

Why volunteer?

Volunteers might be more ‘behind the scenes’ than activists, but their passion and dedication is just as vital in defending human rights. As a volunteer, you will play a central role working with staff and other volunteers in our action centres to support activists.

We need people with different skillsets – persuasive speakers, people with administration skills, those who can create graphics, or do investigative research – so get in touch with the form below and let us know how you can help. Or, see the current volunteering opportunities.

Amnesty follows Volunteer Australia’s national standards for volunteering.

See our values and behaviours charter.
