Harmony Day is officially deemed, ‘a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home’. Harmony Day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and, ‘Since 1999, more than 70,000 Harmony Day events have been held in childcare centres, schools, community groups, churches, businesses and federal, state and local government agencies across Australia.’

The theme for this year is ‘Everyone Belongs’ and is a celebration of multiculturalism and diversity. Members of the Sutherland Amnesty Action group will have a stall and engage the public regarding Amnesty’s advocacy of human rights with a focus on the Community is Everything campaign, refugee and asylum seeker rights and individuals at risk.

The group will also present prizes to the winners of the local schools Harmony Day poster competition. The posters will be on display in Sutherland Library.
