Amnesty International’s Perth office is thrilled to present a truly inspiring Write for Rights event.

This December we’ll be opening our doors to Perth activists for a letter-writing marathon in solidarity with Peruvian farmer Máxima Acuña.

The event will feature guest speakers Terri-Ann White, Director of UWA Publishing; environmental nuclear free activist Mia Pepper and acclaimed poet John Kinsella. They’ll be providing inspiration on the power of language for activism and the importance of land rights to the human rights movement.

Máxima Acuña is in a legal battle with Yanacocha, one of the world’s biggest gold and copper mines, over the ownership of her land. Police have attacked her family, including beating her children and damaging her house. On several occasions, Yanacocha’s own armed security guards even destroyed her crops. But Máxima Acuña won’t back down – and neither will we.

Write for Rights proves every year that words have the power to change the world.

Join us on December 3rd to show solidarity for Máxima, learn to turn words into action and change lives.
