This event seeks to capitalize on soccer as a means of connecting communities and leveraging that connectedness for better engagement in the “My New Neighbour” Campaign. The event will capture the essence of co-design and the power of soccer in driving peaceful coexistence, healing, and community participation.
The ALC of ACT/SNSW will work in partnership with The Bintumani veterans Association (which is a mosaic of African Communities seeking to promote peaceful coexistence and community support for refugees in Australia). Key community influencers will be engaged and Amnesty’s presence will be created by conversations, stalls, petitions, and my New Neighbour shirts. It will capture a joint celebration of refugee and Naidoc week.
While the tournament is ongoing, a barbecue will be organized with the community members as a show of solidarity and mutual endorsement for the campaign. The games will take place in Giralang soccer playground.
