Building relationships with local MPs is an important element for social change. Our elected representatives jobs are to represent our community interests, including human rights issues such as refugee and asylum seeker rights, Indigenous rights, LGTBQI rights and so on.

If you want to build on your skills for engaging your MP this session will cover strategies for securing a meeting with your MP:

  • planning a meeting – knowing what you want to get from your MP
  • practice meetings
  • an activist’s experience – hear from Amnesty members who have done it before
  • a staffer’s perspective – we are hoping to have a staffer talk a little about what it’s like on the other side of the table

We will tailor the evening to suit the needs and experiences of those attending, whether you would like to begin, or already have a relationship with your MP come along to learn more. We’ll even provide you with dinner!
