Amnesty Chermside are inviting local activists and supporters to learn about and take action for current Write for Rights cases including to free Bernardo in Guatemala, jailed for defending a sacred river. We will watch short videos on cases, learn about previous success stories and share reflections on 20 years of Amnesty’s Write for Rights campaign.

Write for Rights is a moment when Amnesty International’s movement of ten million comes together as one to take action and stand up for freedom, justice and equality.

Every year, Amnesty supporters and activists from 170 countries take action – writing letters, signing petitions, and much more – telling governments to challenge injustice and right wrongs.

Those actions pressure authorities around the world to bring those responsible for human rights abuses to justice, and free people unjustly imprisoned.

Together, our voices are powerful enough to challenge injustice and change the world.

Last year, Amnesty supporters across Australia took more than 185,000 actions.
