The Lismore Amnesty International group will have a stall at this year’s womens festival – women talking to refugees- heroes with a heart of gold (see program).
The Lismore Women’s Festival is set to be a joyful and all inclusive event showcasing local women – connecting and empowering them to share and celebrate their stories, businesses, activities, lives, dreams, passions and wisdom.
Be inspired by local women who talk to refugees on Manus and Nauru. This year marks 6 years of indefinite offshore detention. There have been 12 deaths so far. The refugees are highly traumatised and many have given up hope. These compassionate local women have provided support to the refugees connecting with them on a personal level. They connect refugees to the world outside of detention and include them in their lives, attempting to give them a sense of connection and normality.
Look out for local Lismore Amnesty group members between 12- 1pm on the 2nd of march and sign petitions in support of refugees and women who are experiencing human rights violations from all over the world. Email Anne if you have any questions.
