Margaret River Remembers…

When: Saturday 8th August 2020, 12pm-4pm

Where: Riflebutts Reserve, Prevelly

Amnesty Margaret River, friends and supporters, invite the community to join them at Riflebutts on Saturday 8 August.

An Installation of 437 Aboriginal Flags will be created with each flag a visual representation of each Aboriginal person who has died in custody in the thirty years since the Royal Commission handed down its findings.

In addition to the opportunity to sign the petition, Amnesty Margaret River invites the community to join them in the 2pm photoshoot at the Aboriginal Flag Installation. This photo will support the signed petitions when they are presented to government.

Aboriginal representatives Wayne and Toni Webb of Pibulmun Wadandi Yunungjarli have given their support, saying it would be a thoughtful and peaceful way to protest the devastating numbers of Aboriginal Deaths in Custody which have occurred, and still occur, Australia wide.

The recommendations of the 1987 Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody have mostly been disregarded by governments although they were accepted by them. The petition will be asking for these recommendations to be effectively implemented.

All ages welcome.

COVID regulations for an outside event will be applied. 2 metre social distancing.
