Around the world, individuals are doing simple things to make newcomers feel welcome in their communities.

Sadly, we live in a world where people have no option but to flee their homes and countries – and rely on the kindness of strangers to help them start again.

Join Amnesty International Australia as we launch our new Refugee Advisory Group. A group of determined and courageous individual rights-holders with lived experience, who will advise us on our work in this area and champion refugee rights in Australia.

Hear the stories of the advisory group members’ journey to Australia and celebrate the people and communities who helped them rebuild their lives. View the Amnesty Australia ‘I Welcome’ Photo Exhibition and audio tour.

Amnesty’s National Refugee Campaigner, Shankar Kasynathan will be hosting the evening with members of the Refugee Advisory Group, Arash Brodbar and Deena Yako. Headlining the night is Efran Daliri a member of the Refugee Advisory Group, social change animator, educator, author, event director and an internationally toured spoken word artist. Erfan was born in Lucknow, India, to Iranian refugee parents.

Be part of the conversation and take action for an expanded and improved Community Sponsorship Program. Join the movement of people uniting to welcome refugees in their own ways. Because together, we are powerful.

We encourage all members of the community, community organisations and leaders, friends and family to join us at this event.

Light refreshments provided. The event will run from 4 – 6pm.
