This month Meaningful Movies NSW will be screening the daring, award-winning film UNDER THE SUN. UNDER THE SUN is a Russian documentary that follows a year in the life of a family in Pyongyang, North Korea, focusing on the daughter’s preparations to join the Korean Children’s Union on the Day of the Shining Star, Kim Jong-Il’s birthday.

The film was made with the permission of North Korean authorities, but only on the condition that the film would present a happy vision of everyday life in North Korea. Amazingly, despite only being allowed to shoot under strictly controlled conditions, using a script provided by the North Korean government, director Vitaly Mansky and his crew produced a film that has been hailed as a provocative yet clear-eyed portrait of life in a totalitarian state.

UNDER THE SUN has made waves around the world and now Meaningful Movies will be presenting the film at Dendy Newtown on 28 February 2017. Dendy have very generously agreed to provide the venue free of charge. Doors will open at 6.30 pm, with the film to start at 7 pm.
