This event will include an AUSLAN interpreter.

Students Melike and Özgür were celebrating Pride in Turkey when they were met with pepper spray and tear gas from police. They, along with 16 more students and an academic, face up to three years in prison, simply for participating in peaceful protest. Amnesty International are campaigning for all charges to be dropped.

As part of a National 10 Days of Action in December, come along to hear directly from Melike and Özgür, two of the students facing trial, and stand in solidarity with the Turkish LGBTQIA+ community by taking action with us.

Hosted by the Amnesty International LGBTQIA+ Network and Planet Ally, this 1 hour online event will be a conversation between local and global queer activists and will provide opportunities to take action in solidarity with global LGBTQIA+ communities.

Melike and Özgür’s case is part of Amnesty’s annual Write for Rights campaign. Our largest global campaign, Write for Rights brings millions of people together from around the world – because when we challenge injustice, we change lives.
