Join our Victoria action centre team and make an impact for human rights while having a great time with Amnesty staff, activists and other volunteers.

Candle Day 2010 Positions:
Candle Day is one of the largest fundraising and awareness raising events on the Amnesty International Australia Victoria calendar. Originating in the early 1990’s, it has evolved from individual street appeals to an activity that groups, schools, churches and workplaces can also get involved in. We are currently recruiting volunteers for the following positions:

Melbourne University Group Convenor (or co-convenor)
University groups play an important role in Amnesty Australia. Our current convener of the Melbourne University group is looking to move on and we require someone to take her place.
About the role:
1-2hrs per week for a minimum of one year
Group updates and organisation
Pass on information from AIA:VIC to group members
Organise and facilitate meetings and events.
Organise and coordinate campaigns and events
Your group can decide on an Amnesty campaign to focus your campaigning on. You might also work on urgent action letter writing
Run campaign events or participate in Victorian wide events depending on what your group wants to do
Skills:
Excellent organisational skills
Commitment to human rights
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Initiative and enthusiasm
Leadership skills
The current convener will be able to provide you with information and assistance on running the Melbourne university group. She has been involved with Amnesty International for many years and is a wealth of information.
You will also have the opportunity to attend the university workshop on the 17th of March from 5:30pm to 7:30pm and will be provided with skills based training, campaign updates and the opportunity to meet other university students from across Victoria.
